Chest with Missing Drawer Makeover

I found this chest of drawers on the curb and I seriously considered not taking it because it had a missing drawer. But it was solid wood and if nothing else came from the piece I could at least take the knobs off the drawers and use them on something else.
A friend of mine wants me to help her decorate and furnish her bedroom. She fell in love with this chest, but didn't want to pay $160 for it, plus it wasn't real wood.
After deciding she didn't care the top drawer was missing we agreed to move forward with trying to make the chest look like the inspiration.
I painted it a cream color, stained the top with a walnut wood stain and had my husband use a piece of plywood for the shelf. I figure the shelf can either be used to hold a cable box or she can guy some wicker baskets to store socks, underwear, etc in.
I bought a special stencil to use on the drawers, but the stencil smeared everywhere and it just didn't work. So I ended up using some acrylic stamps I've had for years.

Anchor Bar Stool

Once again I rescued a stool from it's death at the dump. With a little soap, water and light sanding the bar stool was ready to be paintd.
Before & After:

Dresser Set Makeover

Found this dresser and chest of drawers in someone's trash. Nothing was broken (which is always a relief) but the drawers were covered in dog fur, the outside of the furniture was dirty and splattered with who knows what...
BEFORE:
I love the curves these pieces have.
The chest of drawers had a missing knob. I save knobs from other projects so I was able to find two matching knobs to use on the top drawer.
After some cleaning and vacuuming they were ready to paint. I've been using this turquoise color A LOT but it's because it sells! It's such a hot color right now. I'm dying to paint something pink, but I'm afraid it won't be as unisex or as popular as turquoise.
I spray painted the handles white.

I sold the set for $250 on Craigslist. I put about 3-4 hours of work into the pieces (which would have been spent sitting on the couch had I not had the furniture to work on). Money in my pocket!

Anchor Bench Update

I found this wood bench at Goodwill for $10. Being solid wood it looked a tad outdated.

All I did was paint the bottom white and it was instantly updated. My favorite part about the bench is the anchor.

Buffet Bar Makeover

I am ashamed to say that I do not have a before picture for this piece. It was a roadside rescue (of course) and it took three somewhat strong women to put it in the truck. This sucker is SOLID! It was plain wood, very boring.

Farm Table

I actually found this very heavy, solid wood farm table in the same yard that I got the desk from (Just on a different trash day).

Once I cleaned off the table and picked all the dead spiders off it it was ready to paint. The top of the table was veneer so keeping it natural wasn't an option because the veneer wasn't in great shape. I decided to paint the whole thing white.

The family that bought it own an old farm house so they're trying to use old furniture that coordinates with the house.

Shabby Chic Striped Desk

I saw this desk sitting in someone's trash pile while I was on my way home from picking up our new dog. Not exactly prime time to be picking up furniture, but I couldn't pass up this adorable desk!
Isn't it adorable? Apparently I'm into stripes right now.

Coffee table Re-Do

Roadside rescue alert! I found this solid wood coffee table on the curb one day on my way to work. I managed to get this beast into the truck while wearing heels and a dress.
It didn't turn out exactly how I wanted, but someone bought it to put on their screened-in pool cage. It definitely looks like a Florida-type outdoor piece of furniture.

TV Tray

I found this TV tray in almost perfect condition. I didn't need to sand it or anything! Can't argue with that.

Of course I stick with my coastal/beach colors. Heaven forbid I do something pink.I painted the whole thing white to begin with. Using painter's tape I made straight lines and painted simple sections. Nothing to it really...

End Table Roadside Rescue

I found these two wood end tables on the curb which I am officially calling "Roadside Rescue". One of the drawers was missing a knob, but other than that they were in perfect condition. Of course the dark wood was too drab for me so I spruced them up Samantha style.
Before:
 After:
I used an anchor stencil I drew several months. The anchors required four coats of paint. I found some old brass knobs I had from another project. I spray painted those glossy white. These endtables sold for $75 for the pair.

Kitchen Island

Curb Alert! Someone threw this kitchen island out because it was dirty and one of the legs was uneven (it looked like a dog chewed on the leg). My  husband evened out all the legs by sawing an inch off. I sanded down the top, stained it and painted the legs and shelf with white paint.

Teal End Table

I found this solid wood end table at a garage sale for only $3! Can't beat that!
Before and After:
I sanded down the top of the table, used a dark walnut stain and painted the legs a great turquoise color I picked up at Lowes. I sold the table for $45!

Toy Chest

Curb alert! This toy chest was in rough shape when I found it. It had a lid but it was so water damaged that it had to be thrown away. Other than that the toy chest was dirty, but that's something little that soap and water easily fixed. My husband made a new top with thick plywood. I used the electric sander to round off the edges so they wouldn't poke anyone. The nice couple that bought it from me are using it for their blankets.

Crab Dresser Makeover

I've said before and I'll say it again, there is power in paint! Can you believe the difference a little paint and creativity made on this chest of drawers? Of course I found this dresser on the curb. It's old and solid wood.
I ended up selling this dresser for $75. Not bad considering it was free!

Compass Rose Kitchen Table

This table was in ROUGH shape. The table top was falling apart. I had to use very strong glue and clamps to get the pieces back together.
 Before:
I sanded the table top down, stained it with a walnut stain, painted the bottom of the table with antique white paint. I used my handy dandy projector to trace the compass rose on the middle of the table.

Before and After:
What a transformation!

Small Table Makeover

I found this small table at a garage sale for $2. The lady was sad to see it go because it has been her great grandmother's table and it was over 100 years old. I assured her it was going to a good home.
I sanded it down and started painting. I chose yellow and blue because it matches the chair I was going to put the table next door.

My entire house is coastal themed so a compass would fit perfectly on the table top.
I used this clip art as my inspiration.

Coffee Table

I found this gem in the trash:

I painted it white:

Then painted an anchor on it:

I am a firm believer in the power of paint!!!!
